About The American Legion
California Boys & Girls State Program

You’ve entered the dynamic world of The American Legion California Boys & Girls State, where participants dive headfirst into an immersive experience, unraveling the intricacies of citizenship: rights, privileges, and responsibilities. This isn’t your average classroom setup – through a hands-on experience, participants will learn the very backbone of governance: the structure of city, county, and state government based on the California State Constitution.

Delegates will replicate reality by taking charge of their day to day experiences while being elected to city, county, and state offices, orchestrating a symphony of legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement showcases, and assemblies that make current government officials accessible. All of this moves along at the beat of our own band. This is not just a program; it’s a vibrant tapestry of empowerment and education.

How does one become part of this exhilarating experience? High schools play the role of talent scouts, presenting a roster of eligible candidates to local American Legion Posts. We’re not just looking for students; we’re on the lookout for those shining stars who’ve conquered their junior year of high school and have one more year to soar. We want leaders, scholars, and service champions – individuals who embody the spirit of their schools and communities.

Merit and ability are our measuring sticks during the citizens’ selection process. The excitement doesn’t stop there; local Posts roll out the red carpet of interviews, selecting the crème de la crème to represent them in this extraordinary program. Who foots the bill? In most cases, it’s the American Legion Posts themselves.

As a fully inclusive program, We comply with all federal accessability laws and guidelines, ensuring that everyone, regardless of gender identity, cultural background, orientation, experience, or ability, can participate in the experience. Just throw in a medical/parental consent certificate, signed by a guardian and you’re ready to embark on this thrilling journey of leadership, camaraderie, and discovery. Welcome to a world where citizenship education comes alive!
